Untangling the Web - Aleks Krotoski

I had the pleasure of joining the presentation from Dr Aleks Krotoski at the Sydneys Writers' Festival yesterday at Pier 3 Club Stage.

Aleks has released her latest book Untangling the Web and during her presentation provided some insights about what the internet is doing to us.

A key theme was how much the digital platform had influenced relationships and the meanings of friendship. The notion of conceptual communities has been transformed both online and offline with the growth of the web.

How we manage our identity was a clear theme, the way we present ourselves to the world along with the privacy aspects with Alek quoting research findings reflecting "tumblr" was used as a digital platform by youth to a large extent as anonymous to a greater degree.

The need for "digital stillness" was discussed with the recommendation for Digital Detox for your peace of mind and managing peoples expectations regarding your responsiveness online.

A fascinating insight and worth checking Aleks latest book Untangling the Web.
